The German Alpine Road runs 450 km from Schönau am Königssee to Lindau am Bodensee. The oldest holiday route in Germany offers magnificent views and connects the most famous sights in Bavaria. The world-famous Bavarian royal castles, monasteries and many other Bavarian originals are worth stopping along the road.

Day 1: Arrival
Arrival in the Chiemgau/Berchtesgaden area. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Berchtesgaden salt mine & Königssee with St. Batholomä
After breakfast, visit the active Berchtesgaden salt mine and experience a fascinating world “underground”. Afterwards, enjoy a white sausage snack and a small drink in the inn right next to the salt mine. In the afternoon you drive to Königssee, where you glide on quiet electric boats to the world-famous pilgrimage church of St. Bartholomä.
Day 3: Chiemsee – Schliersee
Trip to Lake Chiemsee and by boat to Herreninsel to visit the magnificent Herrenchiemsee Castle, built by the fairytale king King Ludwig II. Followed by a visit to Markus Wasmeier’s open-air museum on Schliersee. The old Bavarian village with inn offers museum beer brewed on site. Continue to the Zugspitze region for dinner and overnight stay in the Oberammergau/Garmisch-Partenkirchen area.
Day 4: Ettal – Oberammergau – Linderhof Castle
The day begins with a visit to Ettal Monastery, a Benedictine abbey with an impressive baroque church, which is known far beyond the borders. We continue to Oberammergau, known for the Passion Play that takes place every 10 years. The place is rich in characteristic “Lüftl paintings”. Afterwards you will visit Linderhof Castle, the smallest of Ludwig II’s castles. Dinner and overnight stay in the Lake Constance area.
Day 5: Mainau Island
After breakfast you take the ferry from Meersburg to Konstanz. From there we continue to the island of Mainau. You visit the island on your own. Southern flair, colors and scents, exotic treasures, a palm house with orchids and seasonal flowers await you.
Day 6: Departure
Breakfast at the hotel and journey home.
